2014 Light Offering Dharma Service

Lamp offering provide practitioners opportunities to offer light. Lighting one lamp is cultivating a merit-field, and thus, gaining endless merits. On the fifteenth of the first lunar month, the temple conducts a Light Offering Ceremony and on the fifteenth of the last lunar month, a completion Dharma service. In addition, we chant sutras and make offerings to the Buddha every day. The merits accrued are transferred to the families of all Dharma protectors and devotees, blessing them with peace and harmony.

According to the Sutra of Giving, Sutra of Difference in Retribution, and the Sutra on Merits of Lamp Lighting, the merits of offering lamps to the Buddha in stupas and temples are endless, which are listed as follows:

  • 1. Physical condition: clear eyesight, fine physical appearance, good health and energy.
  • 2. Wisdom: clear mind unaffected by ignorance, ability to uphold wholesomeness.
  • 3. Career: often blessed with benevolent friends, accomplishments, and fortune.
  • 4. Retribution: born of noble family, seeing the Buddha at end of life, and rebirth in the realms of heavens.

The yearly Light Completion Dharma Service is approaching, it will be schedule on the January 19, 2014 (Sunday) at 10:30a.m. The New Year Light offering Dharma Service is scheduled on February 16 (Sunday) at 10:30a.m. We will have the chanting service and prayer at the Main Shrine of Chung Mei Temple.
