Su Dongpo and Buddhism

BLIA-Houston is really glad to invite Ven. Yi-Kung to speak to us in Houston. The topic is Su Dongpo and Buddhism. Su Shi (1037 A.D. – 1101A.D.) was a writer, poet, artist, calligrapher, pharmacologist, and statesman of the Song Dynasty, and one of the major poets of the Song era in Chinese history. He is often referred to as Su Dongpo. Besides his renowned poetry, his other extant writings are of great value in the understanding of 11th century Chinese travel literature as well as details of the 11th century Chinese iron industry. [Ven. Yi-Kung Brief Biography]
Ven. Yi-Kung was born in 1951 in Taiwan. In 1976 Ven. Kung was fully ordained as a Buddhist monk under Venerable Master Hsing Yun. Ven. Kung received a MA degree from India Philosophy Graduate School at University of Tokyo in Japan, and a Ph.D. from Chinese Graduate School at National Kaohsiung Normal University in Taiwan. Ven. Kung was used to be the dean of the Guang Shan Cultural Academy, the president of newspaper Merit Times. Presently Ven. Kung is Fo Guang Shan Religious Affairs committee, committee of Pu-Men Newspaper, the executive director & professor of Nanhua University, and the executive director at University of the West. Ven. Kung also has written several books which were published in Chinese.
