What is Happiness?

Once upon a time, there were two homeless dogs looking after each other. The young dog often complained about their poverty-stricken life, and wondered when good fortune will bless them with food and shelter and find them an owner who would look after them.

The old dog often advised the young do and said to him, ¡§Being homeless means everywhere is our home. Ask no more from life than to sleep warmly at night and have a full stomach. You will lose your dignity and freedom if you have to wag your tail and seek favors from your master.¡¨

The young dog could not accept the old dog¡¦s advice, and continued to dream about becoming a valuable pedigree.

One day, the young dog went to the fortune-teller.

¡§Where is Happiness?¡¨ he asked.

¡§Happiness in on your tail,¡¨ the fortune-teller said to him.

After hearing this, the young dog chased after his tail in order to catch Happiness. He ran until he was covered in sweat. Still, he could not catch his tail! Feeling discouraged, he went to the old dog, ¡§The fortune teller told me happiness is on my tail, but I cannot catch happiness. Would you have any idea how I can catch Happiness?¡¨

The old dog laughed and said, ¡§I search for my happiness by walking forward, having no regrets for the past, no fears of the present and no worries about the future. As long as I am heading forward, that happiness on my tail will naturally follow me.¡¨

Where is happiness? Happiness is found within one¡¦s heart.
